As with most Cannes Film Festival premieres, it’s a long way before the majority of the film actually hit theaters and today we’ve got the first clips from two of our favorites this past May that are aiming for 2013 releases. First up, Festen director Thomas Vinterberg returned with the project The Hunt, which we called a “beautifully-crafted drama” and one that’s “perfectly paced and never striking a false note even despite its taboo subject matter.” The plot in question concerns a mild-mannered teacher and the life-destroying accusation dealt upon him. While Mads Mikkelsen won the Best Actor jury prize for her his lead performance, he’s not featured in the first two clips, both of which can be seen below.

We’ve also got the first clip from Xavier Dolan‘s third feature, Laurence Anyways.  Set in Montreal in the late 1980s, Melvil Poupaud stars as the titular Laurence, a 30-year old man who finally gets up the courage to become the person he’s always wanted to be: a woman. The news hits Frederique (Suzanne Clement), his girlfriend of two years, hard, but then she takes a breath, deciding to take on the challenge with her lover. Check out the first clip below featuring Clement and our full review here.

Both films are expected to hit theaters next year.
