The big surprise Fox Searchlight promised yesterday is now live. They have launched a new interactive site for Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life at TwoWaysThroughLife. They describe “the portal” as an “altogether more comprehensive and interactive look at the themes behind the movie – the way of nature, and the way of grace. Now you can experience pinpoint moments from the film in the form of animations, music and fan comments.”

There is a wheel with two sides, one “the father’s way” and one “the mother’s way”. Each side has 10 very brief clips that you can check it out. Just click the one you want and then “full screen” in the upper middle box. We get a glimpse of some dialogue and I highly recommend clip #7 for a look at what incredible visual effects we have in store. Again, check out TwoWaysThroughLife for all the clips.

I’ve also included three breathtaking clips pulled from the background of the site, showing of the universe visuals. Check them out below.

Synopsis:

From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as Badlands, Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950’s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick’s signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

The Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain and hits theaters May 27th, 2011.
