With his recent resume of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Van Helsing and the two Mummy films, we were hoping that Stephen Sommers might bring down his scale a bit and focus on some worthwhile source material. So, things were promising when he began shooting his feature film adaptation of Dean Koontz‘s celebrated novel Odd Thomas three years ago this summer. Held up in a legal battle, in which producers are suing certain entities for not providing upwards of $35 million towards production and potential marketing, it’s finally been settled and now the theatrical trailer has landed.

Unfortunately, things don’t look very promising. Following a short-order cook who can commune with the dead, a secret only his girlfriend and the local police chief know, nothing looks very believable, from the acting to the action. Perhaps it’s simply a case of bad marketing, but one can check out the trailer below, featuring Anton Yelchin, Willem Dafoe, Nico Tortorella, Patton Oswalt and Addison Timlin.

Odd Thomas hits VOD and theaters on February 28th.
