One of the biggest cinephiles-turned-directors, at least publicly, is Quentin Tarantino. The eccentric writer/director has likely had a tough year, as his long-time editor Sally Menke, suddenly passed away early last fall. It still hasn’t dissuaded his movie watching, as his top 20 list has been uncovered by QT Archives (via Bleeding Cool). Check it out below.
1. Toy Story 3
2. The Social Network
3. Animal Kingdom
4. I Am Love
5. Tangled
6. True Grit
7. The Town
8. Greenberg
9. Cyrus
10. Enter The Void (“Hands down best credit scene of the year … Maybe best credit scene of the decade. One of the greatest in cinema history.” – QT)
11. Kick-Ass
12. Knight and Day
13. Get Him To The Greek
14. The Fighter
15. The Kings Speech

It is certainly interesting there is no mention of Sofia Coppola‘s Somewhere, after it won Venice, and he was on the jury picking it. A las, he did manage to sneak in a few films that I admired. I loved Tangled, and while I think Cyrus is quite overrated, I quite enjoyed Knight and Day. Oddly, the critically darling Black Swan is nowhere to be found. One would think that would be right up Tarantino’s alley.
What do you think of his top 20? Do they match up with yours?
