With supporting roles in Lady Bird and Hostiles and an Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me By Your Name, Timothée Chalamet was certainly one of 2017’s top breakout stars. His presence has been welcome on this long awards season tour and now one of Hollywood’s new big players has found his next role.
Chalamet will hopefully continue his streak of strong leading roles with The King, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry V in which he will play the titular role, Deadline reports. The film, released by Netflix and produced Plan B Entertainment, will revolve around Henry’s reluctant rise to power after his brother is murdered in battle, and his grappling with going to war with France. It will be directed by Animal Kingdom and The Rover‘s David Michôd, who previously made War Machine for Netflix, and will be written by Michôd and Joel Edgerton. Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner, of Plan B, will serve as executive producers.
While the role has been seen before, previously played by Kenneth Branagh and Laurence Olivier, Chalamet will be the youngest to play the role on film at 22. Already one of the youngest Best Actor nominees ever, Chalamet is primed to be cast in prestigious dramas for the rest of his life. Though a release date has not been set, production will start in June of this year.
