Making what is easily our most-anticipated studio feature of the summer, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black is back to the world of crime drama/comedy with The Nice Guys. Starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, the 1970s-set tale follows tough guy Jackson Healy and private detective Holland March, who are working on a missing-person case. With a Cannes premiere set ahead of a release in just three weeks, a new retro trailer has landed for the film, which runs 1 hour and 56 minutes.
“The two problems that epitomized LA in the ’70s, I think, were smog and porn,” Black tells Thrillist. “[We wanted] a plot that embraced them both. In the same way as Chinatown, which shined a light on the ’30s, we [wanted to] tell the story the way we want to tell it, but as a plot device, these things work pretty well. They speak to the time period.”
Check out the new trailer and posters below, along some therapy sessions its stars underwent.
The Nice Guys opens on May 20th, 2016.
