Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh is expanding his cast for his first feature since Side Effects, Logan Lucky. Depicting a pair of brothers who plan a heist during a high-profile NASCAR race, Daniel Craig, Katherine Heigl, Channing Tatum, Riley Keough, Adam Driver and Seth MacFarlane have all previously joined. Now The Playlist lets us know, ahead of a shoot this fall, that Inherent Vice star Katherine Waterston has joined in an undisclosed role and Hilary Swank will take part as an FBI agent.
Speaking of Soderbergh, a female-led continuation of Ocean’s 11 is gearing up under the direction of Gary Ross (Pleasantville, The Hunger Games). Although Jennifer Lawrence won’t take part as rumored, Showbiz 411 inform us that Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, and Helena Bonham Carter are the first to join the cast. With a rumored main team of eight, we’re halfway there as Bullock takes the role of Danny Ocean’s ex-con sister and Blanchett playing the role of her right-hand woman. Set at the Met Ball as a heist for a necklace is planned, production will being this fall in New York City based on a screenplay by Olivia Milch (Queen & Country, Little Women).
While Lawrence won’t take part in the above project, she has found another to add to her large slate. It looks like after the success of The Big Short, director Adam McKay is sticking to dramatic territory for a new project. Deadline reports that the actress has come aboard to lead his new film about the 32-year-old founder of the medical company Theranos. Elizabeth Holmes started the blood-testing company which at one point was valued around $9 billion despite current investigation of false test results. Lawrence, meanwhile, is about to shoot Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming small-scale drama.
Which of the projects are most looking forward? Who would you like to see join the female-led Ocean’s 11-esque heist film?
