What was once Darren Aronofsky’s big-budget remake of Paul Verhoeven‘s Robocop is now Jose Padilha‘s (Elite Squad), so bring on the big-budget movie stars. Even though the original starred non-star Peter Weller, whose face was barely seen throughout the film. But I digress.
Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves, 3 of the approximate 5 male stars still capable of carrying a film (I guess Will Smith and Brad Pitt are too busy or something), are all on MGM‘s wish-list to play the Weller role, that of Alex Murphy, a ballsy Detroit police office who’s mutilated beyond recognition, only to be somewhat revived into the Frankenstein-like serve-and-protect robot Robocop. The source of this news remains up in the air, and considering that these are three huge actors, it feels like an all-too-easy reports, to say the least, so take it all with a grain of salt.
Josh Zetumer, who seems to have provided a draft for every high-profile project in Hollywood these days (including the now defunct Dune reboot) is working on the script. [Moviehole]
Which one of the three would you like to see dawn the Robocop metal?
