With it being around a year since his last feature debuted, Quentin Tarantino has been working on his latest screenplay and the initial details are starting to trickle in. We recently got word that after crafting a southern western with Django Unchained, the helmer will be diving straight in to the latter genre. Today brings another update, which features our first inkling of a cast, as well as a title.
According to Deadline, the project is called The Hateful Eight, which is an indicator that the director will have quite an epic ensemble to put together in a possible nod to The Magnificent Seven, itself a remake of Seven Samurai. The first of the rumored names should be no surprise, as it’s his Oscar-winning Inglorious Basterds and Django star Christoph Waltz. The other, however, is the legendary, 77-year-old Bruce Dern, coming off one of his best performances in Alexander Payne‘s Nebraska, who actually appeared ever-so-briefly in Django.
It sounds like everything is in its early stages, with the script just being drafted, but if all goes as planned, these are two fine actors to kick off the ensemble, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing who comes next. If development moves along as fast as it did with his last feature, hopefully we’ll see The Hateful Eight by 2015 at the latest, and if THR‘s correct, production begins this summer.
What do you think of Dern possibly leading a Tarantino feature?
