As production only recently wrapped on The Hateful Eight, we’ve still got many months before we see Quentin Tarantino‘s highly anticipated western. It’s set for a release later in the year (in 70mm), and the director teased his newest project as far back as last summer — but we imagine not many of you officially saw it.
Helping out his friend Robert Rodriguez, a teaser (featuring no footage from the yet-to-be-shot feature) was attached to the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For , but considering that sequel picked up less than $15 million here in the U.S., it didn’t quite have its intended effect. However, eight months later, it’s now available online to view in all of its title card glory (with some Gimme Danger by Iggy and the Stooges to back it up).
With a cast of Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell as John “The Hangman” Ruth, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Demian Bichir as Bob, Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen as Joe Gage, Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers, and Channing Tatum in a small role, check out the teaser below.
Update: The Weinstein Company has requested the eight-month-old trailer featuring no actual footage be taken down. Enjoy a surprise instead and we’ll have up the official one when it returns.
In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…
The Hateful Eight will be released later this year in 70mm.
