With the future of FilmDistrict being up in the air, it is no surprise they’ve pushed their next film to the farthest corner of 2012. BoM reports that the romantic comedy Playing the Field, from Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino has been pushed from March 9th to December 25th, 2012.
Starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman and Dennis Quaid, the film which follows an ex-soccer player turned coach who seems to be in a Desperate Housewives-esque situation with all the soccer moms in his town, will now open up against Leonardo DiCaprio‘s two films, The Great Gatsby and Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained.
In other release date news Sony Pictures has set a July 12th, 2013 release date for Grown Ups 2, CS reports. Considering I don’t want to waste your time or mine, that is as far I’ll go with that one. Lastly, Wrekin Hill has picked up the US distribution rights for Ben Palmer‘s The Inbetweeners Movie, based on the hit British TV show. The film was a huge hit in the UK and you can read our review here. The small shingle has plans to release the film later this spring.
Wrekin Hill will also expand Zhang Yimou’s war epic The Flowers of War starring Christian Bale next week on January 20th. Our review for that one is here. The distributor last handled Peter Weir‘s The Way Back, which barely left the bigger cities, so if you don’t live in one, don’t expect to see the above films until home release unfortunately.
