You may not know the name Nico Tortorella yet, but that may change Friday when the Chicago native hits theaters as part of the cast of Wes Craven’s Scream 4 (read our review here). It’s little wonder then that buzz is already building around the striking young man whose prior credits include the little known thriller Twelve and the gymnastics TV drama Make It or Break It.

According to THR, Tortorella is currently in talks to join Stephen Sommer’s $20-30 million thriller, Odd Thomas. Adapted and directed by the man who brought us The Mummy and G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, this feature is based on the popular Dean Koontz novel that spawned a book series. So it the first film succeeds, expect a franchise to follow.

Already signed on is Anton Yelchin (The Beaver), who will play the hero, a short-order cook/clairvoyant who can speak with the dead, Addison Timlin (Californication), who will play his loyal girlfriend, and Willem Dafoe as a police chief in the know. If Tortorella signs, he’ll play a police officer who has a secret all his own: he’s in a satanic cult deadset on world destruction! Mwa ha ha ha!

Odd Thomas is set to shoot later this Spring in New Mexico, so expect solid word on casting in short order.

What do you make of Odd Thomas?
