As summer creeps up, there’s a handful of sci-fi features that are near the top of our most-anticipated list and today we’ve got some new images from each. First up, we’ll finally be getting the debut trailer for Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi follow-up to District 9, Elysium, with Oblivion later this month and today brings a pair of images. Coming from Judao (via CS), they give us our first look at Elite Squad star Wagner Moura and Alica Braga, who star alongside Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichtner and Diego Luna in the film set in class-divided 2159. Synopsis:
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Elysium arrives on August 9th.
With Park Chan-wook and Kim Ji-woon delivering their English-language debut, it’s now time for South Korea’s Bong Joon-ho to answer with Snowpiercer. While The Weinstein Company haven’t set a release date yet (it’s rumored for the summer), we’ve got some new images to hold us over today Coming in the form of passports (via Movies.com), they give us the first look at much of our ensemble, which includes Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, Ed Harris, Ewen Bremner, Octavia Spencer, Kang-ho Song and Ko Asung. Taking place entirely on a train in a post-apocalyptic future, this film may see a bow at Cannes Film Festival, so stay tuned for updates and see all the new images below.
Synopsis:
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
Snowpiercer is expected to land this summmer.
