Netflix is currently trying to acquire The Helicopter Heist, a fact-based drama with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star and produce. The online distributor is currently leading the auction, according to Deadline, for the film that is based on a not-yet published manuscript by Jonas Bonnier. It follows a helicopter robbery from 2009 that took place in Stockholm, where a cash service depot was robbed. The thieves used decoy bombs as cover, and got a $5 million take. Eventually, however, seven perpetrators were caught and convicted. No director has been set for the project, but it will be produced, along with Gyllenhaal, by one of his partners, Riva Marker.
This could be a big deal for Netflix — grabbing another project with star power on top of their Brad Pitt-led, David Michod project War Machine along with Bright, David Ayer’s latest with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
