After much production turmoil Deadline is reporting that Bennett Miller (Capote) will start directing duties on Moneyball this July for Columbia Pictures. They have brought the budget down from $60 to $47 million after making a few deals (namely lessening Brad Pitt‘s original $15M paycheck). They will shoot the latest rewrite by Aaron Sorkin. An interesting rumor is Brad Pitt agreed to the lesser amount to possibly make more on David Fincher‘s next project, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Pitt has a long history with Fincher so it is no surprise if he joins the project, but both their reps have denied it for now.

Moneyball tells the true story “based on Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane, who defied conventional wisdom and even his own scouts by fielding a baseball team of castoffs to create the ultimate underdogs en route to one of the most unlikely winning streaks in the history of professional sports.”

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill are the only two committed cast members as of now. Casting is gearing up for a July shoot.
