Despite the star system declining in recent years, Hollywood is still going with the tried and (perhaps) true notion that a main actor can sell a film. One can see the evidence in two new posters for upcoming spring releases, the first being Jeff Nichols‘ southern drama Mud. Led by Matthew McConaughey, the actor plays a mysterious figure who leads two young boys (one being The Tree of Life‘s Tye Sheridan) on an adventure of sorts. Our Cannes review said, “imperfect as it may be, this marks a step forward for Nichols as a filmmaker capable of making big entertainment that retains some intelligence and a palpable message as well.”
We’ve also got the first one-sheet for the next film from The Machinist and Session 9 director Brad Anderson, the thriller The Call. The first trailer was a bit conventional and this poster follows suit, as we see an outline of 911 operator Jordan (Halle Berry), who must help a teenage girl who has just been abducted from getting killed. Also starring Abigail Breslin, Michael Imperioli and Morris Chestnut, one can see the poster below. [Entertainment Weekly/Sony Pictures]
The Call arrives on March 15th, while Mud lands on April 26th.
