Considering that the man has made 4 masterpieces in around 40 years (Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, The New World), the fact that Terrence Malick has started production on his sixth film (an untitled romance starring Olga Kurylenko and Ben Affleck) before his fifth film (The Tree of Life) has gotten a release date, is strange and intriguing.
Along with Affleck and Kurylenko, the film stars Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz. It is set in Oklahoma, Malick’s home state. At the recent Indian Summer Festival Malick was spotted with a crew shooting Kurylenko floating through the fest – a celebration of Native American culture in the Bartlesville area. A company called Redbud Pictures, LLC announced to fest-goers that they would be filming. [The Playlist]

Meanwhile, the film world awaits Fox Searchlight news of a Tree of Life release date. It’ll be a 2011 film, but where in 2011 is still up in the air. Is it to be 2011 Cannes fodder? Or possible NYFF fare?
What do you think of this? Excited for Tree of Life? A homegrown Malick romance with Ben Affleck?
