Although they planned to reteam after Dogville, Nicole Kidman could not fit into Lars von Trier‘s currently shooting erotic drama Nymphomaniac. However, we do have a final batch of actors that have jumped aboard. With Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Udo Kier, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Uma Thurman and Jesper Christensen already making up the main ensemble, THR lets us know the rest.
Joining the cast is Jean-Marc Barr, who worked with von Trier on Dogville, Dancer in the Dark and Breaking The Waves, as well as Caroline Goodall, most famous for Schindler’s List and last appearing in The Cold Light of Day. Rounding out the rest of the ensemble is Shaun of the Dead star Kate Ashfield, Dune‘s Saskia Reeves and lastly, writer/director/actor Omar Shargawi. Since shooting kicked off last month, hopefully this is the last round of announcements and one can see the full synopsis below.
NYMPHOMANIAC is the light and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-‐diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe.
On a cold winter’s evening Seligman, an old bachelor, finds Joe semi‐unconscious and beaten up in an alleyway. After bringing her to his flat he sees to her wounds while trying to understand how things could have gone so wrong for her. He listens intently as she over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-‐out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
Expect a 2013 release for the film.
