Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the Directors Guild of America award tonight for her work on the film The Hurt Locker. Bigelow beat out her ex-husband James Cameron (Avatar), Quentin Tarantino (Inglorious Basterds), Lee Daniels (Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire), and Jason Reitman (Up In The Air) for the coveted award. This win solidifies Bigelow’s status as a frontrunner at the Academy Awards where she would also be the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar.
