Empire has provided us with the first trailer for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s Biutiful, which has still yet to pick up a U.S. distributor. (However, the report says a January 2011 release has been finalized in the UK.) Javier Bardem, who stars in the film, shared the Best Actor prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with Elio Germano (La Nostra Vita). Although the film did open up to somewhat mixed reviews, Bardem‘s performance seemed to be praised in all corners, leading one to believe that he will probably be in Oscar contention.

Both of Inarritu‘s Oscar nominations to date were for his powerful film Babel, so expectations for Biutiful are rightfully high. Be sure to give the trailer a watch below, which combines images from the film with a rather long voice-over narration.
