One of my most anticipated films of 2010, Gaspar Noe‘s Enter The Void, has faced some obvious hurdles being picked up by a studio. The film premiered at Cannes this year to pretty mixed reviews, but those who did love it (such as Hitfix’s Drew McWeeny) really loved it; enough to name it the best film of the year.
The film has been compared to 2001 : A Space Odyssey in terms of its visual experience but also been compared to Noe‘s previous film Irreversible in terms of utter unpleasantness. Luckily enough though IFC Films has come to the rescue. IFC’s Arianna Bocco brokered a deal that will enable IFC Films to release the film via its IFC In Theaters theatrical and VOD day-and-date platform. Knowing of course of the visual experience offered by the film, it would be best to check it out in the theater. A problem faced by many people though will be the fact that it probably won’t really reach outside the top 25 markets at best.
In addition to Enter The Void, IFC also acquired the Red Riding trilogy of films. The 305-minute trilogy will be presented twice daily with two intermissions starting February 5th at the IFC Center in New York for one week only.
Would you go out of your way to see either Enter the Void or Red Riding?
