While Cannes Film Festival has yet to officially announce any titles premiering there, one can make an educated guess on a few that will bow at the year’s most prestigious cinema-related event, and today brings the first footage of a likely one. It was only a few weeks ago we shared the first image from Hirokazu Koreeda‘s highly anticipated next drama, Our Little Sister (titled Umimachi Diary in Japan), and today we have a trio of debut trailers.
Based on the manga series by Akimi Yoshida , it follows a trio of adult sisters, living in their grandmother’s Kamakura home who are visited by a 13-year-old half-sibling. Set for a release in Japan on June 13th, check out the trailers (which unfortunately have no subtitles yet, but we’ll update when they do) and new images below for the film also starring Ayase Haruka, Nagasawa Masami, Kaho, and Hirose Suzu.
Three sisters – Sachi, Yoshino and Chika – live together in a large house in the city of Kamakura. When their father – absent from the family home for the last 15 years – dies, they travel to the countryside for his funeral, and meet their shy teenage half-sister. Bonding quickly with the orphaned Suzu, they invite her to live with them. Suzu eagerly agrees, and a new life of joyful discovery begins for the four siblings… After Like Father, Like Son (Jury Prize, Cannes FF) and Nobody Knows (Best Actor Prize, Cannes FF) Kore-Eda Hirokazu returns with another sensitive and poetic tale of love and family ties.
