One of the major question marks of the fall season was the directorial debut of Sopranos creator David Chase. Set for release in just over two months, there’s been no stills, trailers, posters or anything for his drama Not Fade Away. But question no more, as the Film Society of Lincoln Center have announced the film will premiere as a centerpiece at their 50th New York Film Festival.
We’ve also got the first stills today which feature his longtime collaborator, the lead of Sopranos James Gandolfini, as well as the rest of the cast. The film is described as “a rich and tender portrait of a group of kids in 1960s New Jersey trying to capture the rock and roll dream by starting their own band. All the while, they must navigate the shifting social mores of the decade and the timeless pitfalls of suburban adolescence.”
With a soundtrack by Steven Van Zandt of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band (and also a Sopranos actor), NYFF ditector Rose Kuo added, “it’s a privilege to welcome David Chase to the New York Film Festival with his feature film debut. Never Fade Away’s fun, music-infused world created by Chase offers an endearing and complex portrait of a young man’s coming-of-age in the 60s and features terrific work by an ensemble cast of exciting new talent.” Check out the stills above and below which include some of the cast made up of Brad Garrett, Bella Heathcote, Christopher McDonald, Molly Price, Lisa Lampanell, John Magaro, Jack Huston and Will Brill.
Not Fade Away hits theaters on October 19th.
