Finally arriving in theaters next week, Terrence Malick‘s Knight of Cups is a mesmerizing search for salvation that may never come. However, it’s looking more and more likely that it won’t be his only film this year, as the rumors of soon getting three more features from the elusive director seem to be coming true. We’re waiting on the first look at his Austin-set drama Weightless (recently confirmed as the title by its producer), but today brings the first official, high-resolution images from his long-gestating Voyage of Time.
The Ennio Morricone-scored project — which is technically two films, one a more educational 40-minute IMAX version narrated by Brad Pitt and the other a feature-length cut narrated by Cate Blanchett — is described as “a celebration of the earth – from the birth of the universe to its final collapse.” As one can see in the triptych of images, they form a universal connection with the eye of a person, animal, and the galaxy.
As we cross our fingers for a Cannes premiere, check out the images below from Wild Bunch (via One Big Soul), along with new stills from Knight of Cups (from Coming Soon/OBS), as well as a large playlist of clips.
Update: Photos removed at the request of the producers, but another new one arrived and be seen below.
VOYAGE OF TIME is a celebration of the earth, displaying the whole of time, from the birth of the universe to its final collapse. This film examines all that went to prepare the miracle that stands before us now. Science and spirit, birth and death, the grand cosmos and the minute life systems of our planet – all come together in Malick’s most ambitious film to date.
Knight of Cups arrives on March 4th via Broad Green Pictures, who will also release Voyage of Time and Weightless.
