While we’re on the cusp of the summer season, Hollywood is already looking towards the fall and setting in place some of their highest profile films. One such work is among our most-anticipated films of the year, Scott Cooper‘s Out of the Furnace. Following up his country music drama Crazy Heart, this tale of brotherly crime packs one of the best ensembles of the year, with Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, Boyd Holbrook and more.

Relativity has now set the film for an October 4th, 2013 release, putting it alongside Alfonso Cuaron‘s Gravity, the Vince Vaughn comedy The Delivery Man and Robert Rodriguez‘s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. This means a shuffle for the distributor, whose drama Paranoia with Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth and Gary Oldman is moving out of that slot and settling on August 16th.

With a tone reportedly similar to No Country For Old Men, Out of the Furnace will feature new and old songs from Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, and one can see an extended synopsis below for the film we’d expect to premiere on the fall festival circuit. [ERCBoxoffice]

The film is a drama about fate, circumstance, and redemption. Russell and his younger brother live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.
