After starring in J.J. Abrams‘ sci-fi thriller Super 8 this summer and Sofia Coppola‘s Somewhere last year, it seems that there isn’t much 13-year-old Elle Fanning can’t do. According to Deadline, Fanning will star in Sally Potter‘s latest project Bomb, along side Alessandro Nivola.
Fanning will play a teenage rebel who hopes to save the world from nuclear annihilation, but soon realizes that her family is the one that may end up exploding. Nivola will play her father, who is a charismatic writer in 1960’s London. After having an affair with her best friend, the two have a devastating fallout.
Taking into account her past films, like Somwhere and Reservation Road, Fanning is definitely a good fit for this angst-driven role. I’m intrigued by the casting of Nivola as well, but I think that the pair will work very well together for the dramatic narrative. Potter, who is known for her 1992 film Orlando, will also write the screenplay.
Fanning will be seen next in Cameron Crowe‘s We Bought a Zoo, along with Scarlett Johansson and Matt Damon. Nivola‘s latest, A Single Shot, is set for a 2012 release. The release date for Bomb is currently unknown, but production is expected to begin soon.
