The trailer for We Bought a Zoo was already starting to make my heart turn to butter, but then those bastards at Fox had to put in Sigur Rós. That’s always the go-to “feel awesome!” trailer song, and it works. Cynics will most likely roll their eyes and call this trailer pure cheese, but to those of us who like something upbeat every now and then, We Bought a Zoo looks like the perfect heart warmer.
If David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is “the feel bad movie of Christmas,” then Cameron Crowe‘s family drama looks like “the feel good movie of Christmas.”
After all these years, I still don’t know how Crowe continues to love people so much, but he somehow manages. In a time of cynicism, his humanistic nature is always welcomed. And speaking as one of the few people who adores Vanilla Sky and enjoys Elizabethtown, I cannot wait to see Crowe return with a feature film this Christmas.
Watch the trailer below, thanks to Apple:
Synopsis: This holiday season, acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous) directs an amazing and true story about a single dad who decides his family needs a fresh start, so he and his two children move to the most unlikely of places: a zoo. With the help of an eclectic staff, and with many misadventures along the way, the family works to return the dilapidated zoo to its former wonder and glory.
Starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit, Elle Fanning, and John Michael Higgins, We Bought a Zoo opens in theaters on December 23rd.
What do you think of this trailer? Does it look like a worthy return for Crowe?
