Update: Netflix has acquired the rights to the $30 million film, now titled War Machine, set for a late 2016 release, Deadline reports.
It was just a few weeks ago that we remarked on Brad Pitt‘s fascination with World War II as a result of a number of recent projects, and now the actor has come aboard another drama in the war genre, but one that comes from a different angle (and era). According to a press release, the actor will produce and possibly star in an adaptation of Michael Hastings‘ novel The Operators, and he’s already found a director.
With The Rover likely headed to Cannes ahead of a summer release, director David Michôd has signed on to helm the film, which “will chronicle the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.” The figure was known as a “rock star” in his group and was open about his negative feelings towards the U.S. government in power, which led to his firing, and should make for quite a role for Pitt.
As we await more details, check out the book on Amazon, and see a new still from the Animal Kingdom director’s next film below, picked up by fan site for The Rover from the latest EW. One can also check out the trailer here for the Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce-led drama, in case you missed it.
The Rover opens on June 13th.
What do you think of the pairing of Michôd and Pitt?
