Every piece of news surrounding Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life seems to be small and far apart, but worth sharing. His upcoming epic has some science fiction in it, but not too many details have been released. Empire recently spoke with star Brad Pitt and now we have a better understanding of what to expect.
On it being a sci-fi film:
“Well, in a way. It’s this little tiny story of a kid growing up in the 50s with a mother who’s grace incarnate and a father who’s oppressive in nature. So he is negotiating his way through it, defining who he’s gonna be when he grows up. And that is juxtaposed with a little, tiny micro-story of the cosmos, from the beginning of the cosmos to the death of the cosmos. So that’s where the sci-fi – or the sci-fact – comes in.”
He also revealed Heath Ledger was set to play his part at “one point” but pulled out for an unknown reason. Since Pitt’s Plan B production company was involved he “just stepped in.” I guess it is that easy.”
The Tree of Life is rumored for a Cannes premiere and we will find out tomorrow when the full line-up is released.
