Well, how about this for a match-up? Despite being two of Hollywood’s top stars, Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington have yet to act together. But that might all change in a new crime thriller from Stephen Gaghan. After delivering the complex, adult drama Syriana, which gave George Clooney his Oscar back in 2005, we have yet to see another film from the helmer, but he’s now gearing up on a new project and The Hollywood Reporter lets us know that these two major stars are interested, as well as Django Unchained‘s Jamie Foxx.
Over at Lionsgate, Candy Store currently has little plot details, only that “it’s a a two-hander crime thriller with meaty roles for the two main characters.” Gaghan has been a little busy helping Gary Whitta (who wrote The Book of Eli for Washington) with M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth starring Will Smith, but it will be great to see him get behind the camera again — and we couldn’t ask for a better possible cast. Check back for more details and confirmations as they come in.
Update: The Wrap also lets us know that Christoph Waltz is circling a character titled Black Zenga, while Pitt is considering that of Mark Swain. And on their shortlist is Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper if Pitt decides not to do it. They also add more of the story, saying it follows an “elite, highly trained deep-cover operative who loses everything, ultimately disappearing into Brooklyn, where he must start again. He washes up as a beat cop, only to discover the global organization he was dedicated to fighting is also operating in his new backyard.”
If talks go through, are you looking forward to see this trio on the screen?
