Most animal-related features in cinema today are geared towards offering up the cutest depictions imaginable for a family-friendly audience, but when White God premiered a few years back, Kornél Mundruczó brought some style to the subgenre. He’s now returning to Cannes with what sounds like an even more ambitious follow-up, Jupiter’s Moon.
The story follows an immigrant who gets shot while crossing the border and then finds out he can levitate. With this peculiar mash-up of timely issues and superhero-esque abilities, it will certainly be unlike anything else at the festival. Ahead of the film’s premiere, the first enticing trailer has now arrived (with subtitles!), which can be seen below along with a poster and more images.
A young immigrant is shot down while illegally crossing the border. Terrified and in shock, wounded Aryan can now mysteriously levitate at will. Thrown into a refugee camp, he is smuggled out by Dr Stern, intent on exploiting his extraordinary secret. Pursued by enraged camp director Laszlo, the fugitives remain on the move in search of safety and money. Inspired by Aryan’s amazing powers, Stern takes a leap of faith in a world where miracles are trafficked for small change…
Jupiter’s Moon premieres at Cannes Film Festival.
