Are you tired of Zach Galifianakis yet? I’m actually…not. He showed some range in It’s Kind of a Funny Story and Due Date, while continually impressing on Bored To Death. He is set to reprise his break-out role in The Hangover Part II this summer, and now he has a different project in his sights.

24 Frames is reporting he will join RED director Robert Schwentke‘s R.I.P.D. for Universal. Based on Peter Lenkov‘s Dark Horse comic, the film, scripted by Phil Hay, follows a police force called Rest In Peace Department and a recently slain cop who joins the force to find the man that murdered him. Galifianakis will star alongside Ryan Reynolds in this “supernatural actioner.” For anyone that has read the comics, I’d be interested to know if there is any comedy in them, something expected from this match-up.

Hay has written Æon Flux, Clash of the Titans, and the upcoming sequel Wrath of the Titans. I thought Schwentke’s RED was one of the most overrated films of last year, and with Hay’s lackluster filmography, I hope these two actors can elevate the material. Reynolds would play Nick Cruz, the lead (dead) policeman and Galifianakis would play his cohort.

R.I.P.D. will shoot this summer.

What do you think of Galifianakis and Reynolds?
