If you are a huge sci-fi geek like me, this may just make your day. It has been reported by /Film that Disney has hired the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Departed, William Monahan, to adapt the fantastic up-coming graphic novel Oblivion into a feature length film. The film is set to be directed by newcomer on the scene, Joseph Kosinski, who is heading the highly anticipated Tron: Legacy, due out in December.

Monahan, unlike rookie director, Kosinski, has been in the Hollywood scene for a short period of time already with his resume boasting feature films such as, Body of LiesEdge of Darkness, and Kingdom of Heaven. He has also wrapped his directorial debut London Boulevard. Kosinski is the writer of the graphic novel and the gorgeous art is done by Andree Wallin. At San Diego Comic-Con this year previews of the “illustrated graphic novel” were being distributed and treasured with excitement. The film has yet to get an official production start date, but geeks all over the world have their eyes ready to be blown away.

Are you excited for an Oblivion movie? Do you think that Monahan will do a good job adapting the graphic novel to the silver screen?
