Three quick casting updates have arrived today. First up is The Other Guys (which is absolutely hilarious and a must-see this weekend) star Will Ferrell is “attached to star in and produce a Spanish-language comedy.” The film, which will be subtitled in English is titled Casa de mi padre or House of My Father. There are no plot details yet, but someone involved with Funny or Die will direct, but not Adam McKay. Having recently rewatched Step Brothers, Ferrell can nail Spanish, but hopefully it won’t be an entire opera this time. [The Wrap]

Next up is Kurt Russell, who will star in Don Handfield‘s Touchback. He will play a high school football coach alongside Brian Presley (Home of the Brave), Melanie Lynsky (The Informant, Up in the Air) and Christine Lahti (Obsessed). Check out the synopsis below for the film that begins shooting next week in Michigan. [Variety]

Presley plays a down-on-his-luck farmer and volunteer fireman whose promising high school football career was cut short when he was critically injured during a playoff game. He gets the chance to decide if he wants the life he has, or the life that could have been, when he’s unexpectedly thrust back to that fateful instant that changed his life forever.

Finally, Sean Penn is in talks to star in an adaptation of A. Scott Berg‘s “National Book Award-winning 2008 biography”, Max Perkins: Editor of Genius. Bill Pohland, who recently produced Sean Penn‘s Fair Game and The Tree of Life is looking to direct. Check out the synopsis below. [THR]

The John Logan script adapts telling the story of Perkins, the fedora-wearing eccentric editor-in-chief at New York publishing house Scribner, where he oversaw the release of works by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. Genius would focus on the relationship between Perkins and a young Thomas Wolfe, though the script is peopled with literary characters.
