Guillaume Canet‘s Tell No One is one of my favorite foreign films in recent years. I highly recommend checking it out on Watch Instantly right now. After you come back, you may either by excited or uninterested in the possible US remake. The original is modern enough in every sense, but of course the subtitles are a turn-off to American audiences as we can see in the perfectly unnecessary (but promising) Let Me In and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remakes.

24 Frames is now reporting that the New Zealand filmmaker Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford) is currently writing a draft for the remake. He is “reworking the story of a doctor who, after believing his wife has been murdered years before (and in fact after being named as a suspect in the case), begins getting mysterious messages suggesting she may still be alive.”

There is no word on whether the project will move forward with him, but last year Focus Feature and Miramax purchased the remake rights and now with the section of Miramax Films that is out of business Focus would handle it all.

With the Tell No One remake originally planned for a release next year, it looks like it has completely stalled. I’d still be interested in a remake and I bet the success of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Let Me In remakes will be somewhat of an indicator on where this project heads. Dominik is easily one of my favorites, so I’m interested to see what he reworks with the story.

Are you a fan of the original? Is Dominik a good choice for working on the remake script?
