This Valentine’s Weekend will have to play out in its entirety in order to determine the highest grossing film. As of today, it is neck-and-neck: Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is trailing rom-com Just Go With It by less than a million. Despite having a formidable opening Friday, Bieber lost ground over the weekend and brought in $30.2 million, just behind of the $31 million Just Go With It earned.

Gnomeo and Juliet is not far behind, earning $25.5 million in its opening weekend. Historical action piece The Eagle opened in a distant fourth, gating $8.6 million.

Much talk has been garnered by Fox Searchlight‘s Cedar Rapids which opened in 15 theaters this weekend to the tune of $311,000. Check back to see how that one pans out once it gets a wider release.

Next week sees a big action showdown as Liam Neeson‘s Unknown takes on I Am Number Four. Also opening is the third installment in the Big Momma’s House series, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son (really?). I predict that the big market action films will take the bulk of the proceeds with Neeson‘s star power catching a narrow win.
