Tangled continued impressive earnings to knock Harry Potter off of the box office top spot. In its second weekend, the animated flick grossed $21.5 million, totaling $96.4 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 spent its first weekend in second, raking in an additional $16.7 million. It has now earned a note-worthy $244.2 million in 3 weeks.
Elsewhere, The Warrior’s Way opened in 9th position, despite surprisingly good reviews. The ninja western earned $3 million in its debut.
Oscar favorite The Black Swan opened in 18 theaters, and still grossed $1.3 million, for a 13th place finish this weekend.
Next week sees two big-market openings with the Narnia follow-up The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and thriller The Tourist. With as much star-power as The Tourist brings to the table (via Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp), it won’t be able to top the family draw of the Narnia series. Expect a huge opening there.
