There was a bit of a surprise at the box office this weekend as James Cameron-produced Sanctum stumbled out of the gates. Despite its 3D and IMAX draw, it only netted $9.2 million in its opening weekend. This was well behind The Roommate, which earned $15.6 million in its opening weekend.

No Strings Attached finished in third in its third weekend, earning an additional $8.4 million, bringing its total to $51.8 million. In fourth was The King’s Speech, which is continuing to perform in its 11th weekend. It added $8.3 million to its $84 million total.

For Valentine’s Weekend next weekend, there is big influx of new releases. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never will open, no doubt to an enormous weekend. But look for romantic comedy Just Go With It to be not too far behind. The Eagle and Gnomeo and Juliet see wide releases and may play into the action. 2011 Oscar Shorts will also be released in 100 theaters.
