Although it didn’t hit the $100 million mark, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides took in $90.1m despite garnering terrible reviews. This is less than the $135m Dead Man’s Chest opened to, and even less than the $114m At World’s End brought in its opening weekend. Internationally though, it has made a massive $346.1m in just five days.
Bridesmaids held incredibly well, only dropping 20% for a $21.1m weekend, bringing its total to almost $60m. It beat out Thor, which grabbed $15.5m in its third weekend. Rounding out the top five is Fast Five with $10.6m and Rio, which brought in $4.7m.
In limited release, Woody Allen‘s Midnight in Paris grabbed a fantastic per-theater-average of $96,468 from six theaters. It has already beaten last year’s per-theater-average winner, The King’s Speech and it makes it the 15th biggest per-theater-average ever. Next week will be a huge battle with Memorial Day Weekend seeing Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Hangover Part II both hitting wide release. In limited release could Terrence Malick‘s highly anticipated The Tree of Life beat Woody Allen‘s record this weekend? Check back next Sunday for the results.
