With summer blockbuster season in full swing, The Karate Kid opened with an impressive weekend, earning $56 million, handily winning the weekend.
The A-Team, came in second, with another reasonable opening weekend, gating $26 million. It got my hard earned money, in spite of Mr. T’s warning not to go, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by it. I thought it was going to be a nightmare, but all in all I really enjoyed it.
Shrek Forever After showed, earning another $15.8 million, bringing its total to $210 million. It continues to perform in its third week.
Elsewhere, Splice continued to underperform, even though everyone I know recommends it. It brought an additional $2.8 million, adding to its dull $13 million total. It finished in tenth for the weekend.
