Heavily advertised animated film Despicable Me reaped the benefits of its campaign with a respectable opening weekend. It earned just over $60 million dollars, limiting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse to only one week in the top spot. The latter earned $33 million in its second weekend, bringing it to $237 million, making it the 10th fastest movie to $200 million.

Predators debuted in the third position, earning $25 million, despite a relatively limited release. It opened in nearly 2,000 fewer theaters than Eclipse, averaging considerably more per theater. Toy Story 3 is still hanging on in 4th position, adding another $22 million it its 4th weekend. It now has a hefty $340 million.

Cyrus may just be this summer’s “little movie that could,” as it keeps adding theaters, now in its 4th week. It is up 77%, adding $1.3 million to its $3.5 million total. It finished in 10th this weekend.
