Those in the U.K. will have The World’s End in eighteen days, those in the U.S. must wait until late August, and I sort of wish George Washington et al. had just piped down. The trans-Atlantic transition stinks a bit, but, to help ease it, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost will screen their third Cornetto title at San Diego Comic-Con the day of its U.K. opening — and in the immediate lead-up to that, a viral convention campaign is to be waged.

/Film have more information on the matter, though, for those who won’t be in San Diego come two weeks from now — i.e., an overwhelming majority of those reading — there’s something of greater interest: a viral video. Yes, these are usually the lamest of marketing items, but this one — an advertisement of the 12-bar pub crawl which End‘s protagonists partake in — is a short bit of fun, what with its late ’80s / early ’90s qualities and slightly self-effacing nature. If that’s not up your alley, enjoy a new TV spot; though not noticeably different from a full-length trailer, a couple of new and non-spoiler bits are quickly thrown in.

Both can be seen below:

Synopsis:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

The World’s End opens in the U.K. on July 19; it’s schedule to make a U.S. premiere on August 23.

Any thoughts on the new viral campaign or TV spot?
