Touring around the world, the latest stop for Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition is at Toronto, specifically the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Full of memorabilia and insight into the productions of the director, it’s a must-visit if you’re anywhere near the location. However, if you’re not, TIFF is helping bring some of it to you, making available a recent, fantastic Q&A with the stars of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Keir Dullea (Dr. Dave Bowman) and Gary Lockwood (Dr. Frank Poole).
Split into two parts — before a 70mm presentation of the sci-fi classic, and a post-screening discussion — the two talk about how they were cast, which of Kubrick’s previous films make them cry, a continuity error in the film (and what Kubrick did after he caught it), their favorite moments during a surprisingly relaxed production, how Dullea got involved with the follow-up, what they take away from the ending, and much, much more. Check out the full conversation below and watch the stellar new trailer for the film’s U.K. re-release.
