With so many viral campaigns seemingly going through the motions, 20th Century Fox have delivered a breath of fresh air this afternoon. Kicking off the push for Ridley Scott‘s highly-anticipated sci-fi blockbuster Prometheus, they’ve released a TED Talk hinting at the world we are about to see this summer. Set in 2023 and led by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), CEO of Weyland Corp, he talks about the future of technology.
The man’s findings will of course go on to play an integral part of the Alien series, but how will he work into Prometheus? We don’t know, but we can glean a bit from this clip. Check it out below via TED, followed by a bigger explanation about the short directed by Luke Scott from the idea by Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof.
Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade. Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.
Prometheus, also starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green and Patrick Wilson will arrive on June 8th, 2012.
