This August, Cary Fukunaga will finally step behind the camera again after Beasts of No Nation, this time returning to his television days, helming every episode of the Netflix series Maniac. A Superbad reunion for Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, they play patients in a mental institution that live out fantasy lives in their head, based on the Norwegian series from a few years back. While that project won’t arrive until 2018 at the earliest, we have a new, short project from the director.
Ahead of an opening later this month, the Jane Eyre director visited Jake Gyllenhaal on Broadway as he rehearses for the Stephen Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park With George. Captured in one long Birdman-esque take as the actor sings “Finishing the Hat” and walks towards the stage, it’s entertaining to see the Nightcrawler star flex a different muscle.
