This is the sort of news that may cause movie nerds to find a new passion in their lives. Heat Vision reports that Adam Sandler is attached to star in Hello Ghost, an Americanized remake of a 2010 supernatural Korean comedy for director Chris Columbus. The original film followed a man who, after attempting suicide, finds himself haunted by four ghosts who refuse to leave him alone until he grants each one of them a wish (what?). Columbus will direct from a script by Karen Croner but given that Sandler is now involved a good chunk of her work will probably be replaced with “Happy Madison”-style humor and improv. No word on any other casting news, but let’s just assume that Kevin James and David Spade will find their way into the movie — it’s the safe bet.
For those of you looking for your Adam Sandler fix his next comedy, Grown Ups 2, hits theaters next month and he’s also currently shooting Blended, a Western-themed comedy alongside his 50 First Dates co-star Drew Barrymore. For everyone else, plan accordingly and don’t say I didn’t warn you.
As for Hello Ghost it has a cool premise but I haven’t been a Happy Madison supporter in a long time and there’s no reason for me to believe that this movie could be anything above what Mr. Sandler has been doing these past few years. The fact that he’s teaming up with Columbus, a director many people dislike (not me though), is just the icing on the cake made of apathy. Perhaps the cynicism will be unwarranted in the long run, but in the meantime, one can see the full feature-length original film below.
Any thoughts on Hello Ghost, original or remake? Do you still hold out hope for Adam Sandler to care again?
