Twin Peaks

“Where we’re from, the birds sing a pretty song… and there’s always music in the air.” With a new series of Twin Peaks hurtling our way — and yet still not arriving fast enough — the Danish National Symphony Orchestra has performed all of the show’s iconically haunting and heavenly themes that will only make you jones more for those industrial opening credits.

Based on the original composition by Angelo Badalamenti, this tight, beautiful rendition perfectly captures the show’s unique nature: dark and disturbing, joyous and beautiful. As the bliss of the piano fades into the droning, ominous hum of a violin, Twin Peaks’ duality becomes crystal clear. The first time you hear it, Dale Cooper goes on to summarize your feelings: “Harry, I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.”

Watch the full performance below (with a nod to Open Culture), and listen to a damn fine mixtape of the new cast’s music here. We’ve also included an hour’s worth of Lynch’s talk with Charlie Rose, from 1997 and 2000, respectively.

The Twin Peaks OST will be released on vinyl on September 9th. Pre-order here.
