If the news of a prequel to The Shining moving forward is getting you down, today brings a fine remedy. After Stanley Kubrick‘s daughter Vivian brought us behind-the-scenes with an extensive documentary from the set of the 1980 production, it’s time to dive deeper into the hidden themes of the Stephen King adaptation.

While the recent Room 237 delighted in the more outside-the-box, often absurd shrouded secrecies when it comes to the film, Darren Foley of Must See Films presents a more convincing argument for some of the themes found within. Focusing on both the idea that the film is all about how history is repeated (including the mention of deleted scenes) and the clues that Torrance might be an abusive father, it’s a great watch.
