And here’s another graphic novel adaptation for the ever-growing list: Variety reports that Walden Media is moving ahead with their development of Rex Libris, having tapped Ben Zazove to adapt the humor sci-fi graphic novel written, illustrated, and created by James Turner.
Movement began last summer when Walden acquired feature rights to the novel, which follows “the zombie-slaying adventures of librarian Rex Libris as he protects the books of the Middleton Public Library and guards the world’s literary treasures from a host of supernatural foes.” After being issued in quarterly installments from 2005 to 2008, I can see Walden’s draw to the project. With Hollywood following the zombiecraze over the past few years and people loving every second of it, it only makes sense to start production as quickly as possible, before the well runs dry.
Evan Turner and Michale Bostick are producing for Walden, with Brent Lilley for Slave Labor Graphics. Walden is known for their family-oriented films — most recently Journey 2: The Mysterious Island — so I can’t imagine the project taking a Shawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later route, likely a smart on their part.
