Production on a sequel to David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake is now underway, albeit with none of the original cast (or director). The Girl in the Spider’s Web, directed by Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and scripted by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Locke), is pulling in some of the finest actors of the last year. Led by Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, The Square star Claes Bang recently joined as the villain, and now they’ve recruited the break-out lead of Phantom Thread.
Variety reports that Vicky Krieps has joined the project in an undisclosed role. She’ll also be joining Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), Cameron Britton (Mindhunter‘s Ed Kemper), Borg McEnroe‘s Sverrir Gudnason as Mikael Blomkvist, Lakeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant, and Headhunters‘ Synnøve Macody Lund. Sony and MGM will release the film on November 9, 2018.
Krieps, who we recently spoke with about her work with PTA, will next be seen in Raoul Peck’s The Young Karl Marx, which opens on February 23, the same weekend she can also be seen in Gutland, playing as part of Film Comment Selects at the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
